Hot day at the races

This Jurassic Summer is almost over. We have trained in the heat, and today we had a hot one at the races. Our team ran a 5-kilometer race at the Naval Station in San Diego California.

The best part of the race was the participation of a couple of US Army Soldiers [double amputees] on their special 3-wheel racing bikes. Everyone present gave them a well-deserved standing ovation.

For me this was a special race. This was my first race in 19 months [my last race was last year in Australia during a port visit]. In June 2006 I suffered a knee injury [I was at sea, on deployment], and I have slowly recovered [PTL].

Today was a good test, I was able to hang in there with the younger runners in the front pack from start to finish [PTL]. I do not want to get too excited about the race, I must continue to train slowly for the long run.

I have a good running streak going [last day off was in early April 2007 in St George due to inclement weather]. Keeping my fingers crossed, and again, I can not afford to get too excited.

If things continue to go as planned, and I can avoid a serious injury, I plan to be present for a long run at the St George Marathon. This is a 26-mile run, and I will be forced to pace myself. Tuff but doable.

Thanks for reading.

You are a model and inspiration for young people who aspire to be long distance runners. Our 28 year old grandson has done some long distance running but it hasn't become a passion, though he continues to keep his body fit. Right now his passion is a young woman who is to become his life partner in November.

I'm finding it more difficult to keep up a daily 2 mile walk, which I need desperatly! Maybe you'll inspire me!

Have a good day...and thanks for visiting "Love for Home".

Good luck to you in the marathon. I have only run one marathon and that was the NYC one back in 1978 or 1979. I had a crappy time of 5hrs and 23 minutes ... but the victory was in never stopping (though sometimes my pace was nearly a walk ... especially over the bridges).

Thanks for dropping by and thanks for the good note.

Good on your grandson for staying fit and good
for shifting his passion to his soon to be life partner!

Please keep up with your daily workout regime, it is good for you and good for those around you [you will motivate them].

Sometimes it is hard to get motivated, and it is harder if you have suffered an injury.

I was the motivator in my military unit because I just laughed at the problems [let's fix it and move on].

Motivation is contagious. Even if you don't feel motivated, act it!

Have a fine TEXAS day!

Thanks for dropping by and thanks for the good note.

I had a tuff workout today, had to cut my workout short due to tight muscles. I will have to exercise on the treadmill for the next couple of days [no biggie].

Injury prevention is the order of the day.

Have a fine INDIA evening!

Thanks for dropping by and thanks for the good note.

NYC Marathon is awesome, and it was better in the late 1970s when you ran it.

I have finished four 26 milers and one 50 miler [ultramarathon].

I participate in the official US Navy marathon in Pensacola Florida [Blue Angels Marathon] in the early 1980s. It was won by an Army officer.

Oh, in Pensacola I finished 18th overall, and number 3 for the US Navy team. But that was then, and this is now.

I was a runner once ... and young.

SLOW workout today

PTL. Oh, I was able to take care of my workout at the Naval Station gym, running at three-speed [slow, semi-slow, and super-slow] for one hour on the treadmill. Keeping the running streak alive and keeping fingers crossed. Injury prevention is the order of the day. As Paul said it "We were all young once" ...

Have a fine Evening in the USA!

Niki

Two days ago during the workout my left leg was bothering me in the middle of the workout, I ran about two thirds of my normal run. And yesterday I did my workout on the treadmill. This morning things are looking better. Thanks for the recommendation, I will check with my local running store for a good sports massage center.

Have a fine JAPAN evening!

NOT so bad today

Slow workout at the Navy Base Gym, one hour on the treadmill, but much better than yesterday [PTL]. Keeping my fingers crossed, and will check on Niki's recommendation. Not a bad day.

Have a good Sunday!

UPDATE as of Sunday:

Had a good workout at the Naval Station Gym running at a decent pace on the treadmill on the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th. Yesterday [Saturday] I had a good run at the Naval Station track, running at a very conservative pace. Feeling better [PTL] and getting ready for my morning workout! Thanks for reading!
