Aung San Suu Kyi, from Burma. Miss Suu Kyi, 62, is the daughter of Aung San, Burma's assassinated independence hero. She grew up in Burma and India. She spent many years living as a housewife in the UK. She returned to Burma in 1988, and co-founded the National League for Democracy. Her party won Burma's national elections in 1990 by a large margin but was prevented by the military junta from taking office. She was awarded The Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. She is world's only detained Nobel peace prize laureate, having spent 12 of the last 17 years in various forms of custody.
I find myself having serious issues finding something positive to write about. I do not like to write anything negative because I am not a member of the Church of Negativity. I will try to keep this one short. This will be my last post for some time, I am falling behind schedule here and I need to get my house in order for my road trip in the middle of next week. Let's move on. WARNING. Some of the issues at hand are NOT politically correct, so, please, proceed with caution.
I take it personal. Yes, I take it personal because my family contributed to this war big time, but we are sick and tired of this war. This administration calls anyone who criticizes their policy in Iraq "anti-troops" and "unpatriotic" but, "supporting the troops" does NOT mean supporting an endless war. As per one Right Wing Wacko Talk Show Host, if you are in the military, and you want our troops to come home, then you are a phony Soldier [and we can add phony Airman, phony Sailor, or phony Marine]. So, service members who support U.S. withdrawal are "phony Soldiers." I want to see this Right Wing Wacko Talk Show Host and his water-boys joining the military, getting in desert cammies, flight suit, or navy coverall, and joining the fight [time to put up or shut up]. Last month I wrote about seven Soldiers writing an op-ed on the New York Time calling for the end of this war [two of the Soldiers died in Iraq after the op-ed was published]. Also, last month I saw an Army Sergeant on a news interview challenging the president or anyone from the administration to join him on his foot patrols around Baghdad [he is on an extended tour, and is sick and tired of watching his fellow Soldiers die], he is willing to extend another 15 months in Iraq for free if any of our politicians join him. I do not believe that the Sergeant and the seven Soldiers [two now dead] are phony.
Where in the world is Burma? Check the Google Earth and you will find it. In the 1980s during one of my deployments, we were involved in contingency operations off the coast of Burma. But that was then, and this is now. Things are not looking good for those asking for regime change in the old Burma [now known as Myanmar]. Soldiers are clubbing activists in the streets and shooting to kill. The military have occupied Buddhist monasteries and cut public Internet access. Things are not going to get any better. And there is NO HOPE in sight for those protesting on the street. We are for regime change, but there is NO OIL in Burma.
Republicans Political Debates. The "Black Forum" at Baltimore's Morgan State University, moderated by talk show host Tavis Smiley and aired by PBS happened yesterday. The top four Republican candidates were conspicuously missing, and their podiums were in place, with their names, empty. John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson did not show up for the debate, they were too busy collecting money [hopefully Black Republican voters will remember this when they go to vote]. To the Republican Candidates I say this, IGNORE the minority voters at your own risk.
Navy Swastika Building. This is all over the news. A military building here in San Diego with the shape of a Swastika. Believe it or not, I have walked in front of this building several times, and you will never notice anything from the ground. There is a park nearby, where we used to go for morning exercises. Now the Navy is going to expend almost a million dollars on the landscape in order to HIDE the shape of this building. Was anyone paying attention to the floor plans during the construction?
Larry Craig. Remember him? Today was supposed to be his last day in office. Well, guess what, this man is not leaving! He will be around to continue to drive his fellow Republican Senators crazy. He will try to clear his name, but as per some polls Idaho voters are sick and tired of the Toilet-Gate and can't wait to see him leaving the Senate for good. Not so fast, he will continue to be in office and he will continue with his homophobic votes for a few more days [or weeks, or months]. And oh by the way, the Minneapolis Airport will expend one million dollars in toilet modifications to prevent another Toilet-Gate from happening.
Troops draw down plan is now in progress. The first U.S. military unit scheduled to withdraw from Iraq under the administration's plan to reduce troop levels has left the war zone. The 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, a group of 2,200 Marines who were stationed in Anbar, are now aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard and the rest of the ships in the Expeditionary Strike Group, and are heading HOME to San Diego. Don't anyone open those champagne bottles yet, we still have 165,000 troops in Iraq and it is going to take a long time before we get down to the Pre-Surge numbers. As of this moment, it is going to take 5 to 10 years before all our combat troops are out of Iraq. We broke it, we bought it.
America is sick and tired of a Bush or Clinton in the White House. I was not aware of this number! Forty percent of Americans have never lived when there wasn't a Bush or a Clinton in the White House! I have said ad nauseam that I am sick and tired of having a Bush or a Clinton in the White House. Eight Years of Reagan/Bush. Four Years of Bush One. Eight Years of Clinton One. Eight Years of Bush Two. Followed by another Four or Eight Years of Clinton Two? Time to put a stop to this nonsense! Just say NOT to another Clinton or another Bush in the White House during our lifetime!
Global Warming. Are you kidding me? Our president talking about Global Warming? No, this is not a joke. The president is talking about reducing global warming [but our friends from Europe are not buying his recommendations]. Today the president gave a speech in which he acknowledged that climate change is real and that human activity is a factor. What was he drinking?
This one is not a joke. Or is it? Today a small group of Republicans facing election fights next year have rallied around war legislation they think could unite the GOP. They have called for an end to U.S. combat in Iraq, but wait until President Bush is almost out of office. Okay, the second part of this equation IS a joke [waiting for president Bush to be out of office to implement the plan]. Enter Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, "I don't support it at all .. "It doesn't do anything." The Democrats deemed the legislation a nonstarter.
The Boys of Summer. See, I will end on a good note here! Last Sunday I wrote about The Boys of Summer and the Phillies, Mets, Cubs, Brewers, Rockies, D-backs, and my Padres trying to make it to the finals. Well, with three days left on the Regular Season, we have no division winners and no wild-card winners. The best weekend series is going to be the D-backs playing three games against the Rockies in Colorado. The Rockies have won their last eleven games, and are hungry for a play off spot. I will not bet a penny on what team is going to make the play off and on what team is going to be watching the games like the rest of us [on television]. This is exciting! Good luck to YOUR team.
Thanks for reading this book!

I know you are coming back, but as per the Nobel Prize web site she was born 19 June 1945 in Yangon [Rangoon], Burma. Here is a link to her bio posted on the Nobel Prize web site:

There are plenty of photos of her on the internet [in some she looks good, in some she looks bad]. Okay, waiting for you to come back with the name of that movie! Have a fine Vegas evening.

cfs,
I regret that this is your last post "for a while". I've begun to rely on reading you for the political updates.
I know what you mean by finding it difficult to find something positive. Even on my insignificant blog, I struggle to keep it up-lifting and inspiring.
In our little town, we've begun to experience mendacious qualities in our city leadership, drug and alcohol use among our teenagers, vandalism. On top of our national and world problems, it has begun to be so disheartening. I know the anguish that Terri feels.
Get back to your blog as soon as you can and take care!

Good morning and thanks for the comment. Thanks for dropping by The Lowest Rated Blog. I go to your blog and Matthew's blog to get some inspiration. It is sad to hear that Les Misérables are taking over your small town [it is time for the honest citizens to take the town back]. I need to go on the road next week to take care of business, but I will be back [hopefully fully charged and with something positive to write about]. Thanks again for the visit and have a fine Texas day.

laughed@ "What was he drinking?"
i hope your family will get well soon and have a wonderful vacation!!

Niki
Thanks for dropping by and thanks for the comments. When you are in front of the Swastika Building you just see concrete walls in front of you, I have walked and drived by that building several times and never imagined how it look from the air! On the GLOBAL WARMING issue, our administration have denied denied denied and denied the issue, and now finally they are talking about it - too little, too late - that's why I asked what was this man drinking ... who are we trying to FOOL here? Not this writer! Niki, have a fine JAPAN evening!

My dad is out goofing off in Palm Springs... on some hike ...
but.. I managed to remember the name of the movie...
I found it on Netflix...
"No End in Sight"
This is the description:
This in-depth, award-winning documentary from filmmaker (and former Brookings Institution fellow) Charles Ferguson examines the decisions that led to the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq and the handling of the subsequent occupation by President George W. Bush and his administration. Featuring exclusive interviews with central players and detailed analysis, the film pulls no punches as it chronicles the twists and turns America took on the path to war.
Terri
Thanks for coming back. Yes! I saw part of the documentary on PBS and it is a good one! For those not familiar with the firm, here is this from PBS. Have a fine VEGAS evening.

No End in Sight
Nearly four years after President Bush declared an end to combat in Iraq, the country is still fraught with daily casualties, costly commitments, and an ongoing debate on how to end the violence. How did it come to this? This week, NOW's David Brancaccio speaks with two very different, but unforgettable men who allege that U.S. bungling in Iraq created and fueled the deadly insurgency. Paul Hughes, a retired Army colonel, was part of the transition team after the U.S. invasion of Iraq. He says key decisions were made that ignored the realities of Iraq. Omar Fekeiki was a Washington Post reporter and translator who risked his life to help U.S. journalists. Both Hughes and Fekeiki are featured in a new Sundance prize-winning documentary, "No End in Sight," which exposes what it calls "a chain of critical errors, denial, and incompetence that has galvanized a violent quagmire." Fekeiki's identity was hidden in the documentary for his protection, but he chose to appear unmasked on NOW for the first time.
LRB,
I had a whole rebuttal typed up to your posting, but then I decided against it. I consider you an intelligent person and being an intelligent person, if you were privi to information that you evidently are not and I do not have the sources to get it for you. I will decline comment. I do agree with you concerning the house arrest of the woman in Burma. I have read much prior to this last. The protester went to her residence as part of their protest to show solidarity. Talk to you when you get back.....stay well.....

TL thanks for dropping by, thanks for your comment. I have not hit the road yet, but I have a lot of work to do here [important stuff]. Can't hang around in Cyberland but I check my email and I see when replies are posted on The Lowest Rated Blog. Okay, I need to get ready for my daily workout. TL, you have a fine Sunday in The Great State of Maine.

SEPTEMBER 2007 IN IRAQ
The month is almost over [it is not over until it is over]. On the BAD column, we had our BEST month in Iraq since July 2006. We are slowly making progress and I look forward to a GOOD MONTH during October 2007. Like the majority of Americans I want to see our troops out of that useless country, but we can't leave today, tomorrow, next week, or next month. It is going to take time TO LEAVE WITH HONOR. We BROKE the country and now it is our duty to FIX IT. We WON this war in early 2003, but now we must WIN the peace. Our military continues to do an awesome job under BAD conditions. Again, to win the PEACE it is going to take TIME, however, I will NOT call anyone trying to expedite the return of our troops home "a BAD American." Have a productive week.

LEADING THE IOWA POLLS
Here is a surprise for you.
Mitt Romney [not Rudy Giuliani] is the Republican candidate leading the polls in IOWA.
Senator Barack Obama [and not Hillary Clinton] is the Democratic candidate leading the polls in IOWA.
The IOWA caucuses are the first contest in presidential nomination for both parties. Expected to take place on January 14th 2008.
We do have plenty of time before the first vote - anything can [and will] happen.

BOYS OF SUMMER
The Phillies, the Cubs, and the Diamondbacks are IN the playoffs. The Mets are gone, the Brewers are gone. The Rockies and the Padres are hanging and will have a pre play off play off game today [October 1st], and the winner will go to the play offs as the Wilcard. Padres deserve to LOSE.

JUSTICE CLARENCE THOMAS
I hope you watched 60 Minutes last night and I hope you saw Justice Clarence Thomas' interview. One of the best interviews on 60 Minutes [check the attacked link for more on this]. In my opinion Justice Clarence Thomas did an outstanding job in front of the television cameras. During the confirmation hearings he was a victim of what he called A High-Tech Lynching by members of Congress [the hearings took place in 1991]. And now we know the rest of the story! Have a productive week.

IRAQI CITY OF BASRA
Don't tell this to the RWWs, but as per Basra citizens the city is much quieter after British troops pulled out of the city. No, this is not a joke. The occupiers were the problem. The British used one of Saddam's palaces, and the place was hit by mortar rounds, rockets and small arms fire daily, making life hazardous for British and Iraqis alike in Iraq's second-largest city. All the activity in the area STOPPED after the British left. The British leaving Basra will be a good case study for our troops leaving Baghdad. We need to keep an eye on progress made in the city of Basra.

BOYS OF SUMMER - ROCKIES ARE IN
The Rockies did it. They were the winners of the pre-playoff playoff game last night and now MY Padres will be participating in the playoffs like the rest of us - in front of their television. Padres and Mets had no business in the playoffs and it was good to see both teams losing big time on the finish line. Now let's have some fun watching the Rockies playing the Phillies, D-Backs playing the Cubs, and those other teams in the American League. Have a productive day.

Mike is going to purchase Clarence's book!
He can't wait to read it.
I don't listen to Limbaugh, but have heard ad nauseum about what he said. From what I have heard, El Rushbo, safely ensconsed behind the golden EIB microphone (o-kay, I listened to him 1o years ago, before he went totally wacko), did indeed utter the phrase "phoney soldiers" with an "S". However, in his 5 minute diatribe, he only mentioned the one soldier from the Baghdad diaries that claimed to have witnessed atrosities and was later found out to never have even been in combat. Rushbo would love to join in the combat operations in Iraq ... if it weren't for that cyst on his butt that kept him from being drafted during Viet Nam, I'm sure he would be right there leading the charge. (By the way, it is hard to type and laugh at the same time).
Missing the black forum was a HUGE mistake. Granted, President Bush only got 12% of the Black vote in 2000, but in 2004, he got 18% of the black vote in Ohio ... and that little percentage was enough to keep me from having to say President Kerry (ouch ... I got a hand cramp just from typing it.
I'm stopping by just to say hi! Hi! I had a nice day watching Conference today. I plan on the same tomorrow. Goodnight! Have a great day!
Just came by to see if you were home.
Paul, David, and Terri
Thanks for dropping by and thanks for the notes. I am back from my long trip, and ready to continue posting some non PC articles here. Have a fine day and read my latest on Al Gore and his PEACE PRIZE [for the RWWs, eat your heart out!].
