Political Recap 010

OMG, look at those faces! The Agony of Defeat. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stands with Rep. Rahm Emanuel, during a press conference on Capitol Hill, October 18th 2007, after the House failed to override the president's veto of the spending increase for the State Children's Health Insurance Program [SCHIP]. Was the VETO of the SCHIP a bad move by the president? I have no idea if this was a good move or not, the president made a lot of enemies on both sides of the isle, but at the end of the day the VETO stands. With this VETO, the president continues to show the Democratic Party Leadership that HE is not a lame-duck president, that HE remains in charge, and that HE [and not the Democratic Party leadership] is the decider. Democratic Party Leadership, eat your heart out.

El Rushbo one, the incompetent Democratic Party leadership zero. Score a big one for El Rushbo, as he was able to out-flank the Democratic Party leadership by beating them at their own game. By now everyone is aware of the Ebay auction on a letter sent from Democratic Senators [41 senators signing, including presidential wannabes Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Christoper Dodd] blasting El Rushbo. The letter was sold for a record 2.1 million dollars. Some day this letter may be available for all of us to see it at the Smithsonian, National Archives, or even at the GWB presidential Library. The money [$2.1m] was matched by El Rushbo [for a total of $4.2m]. The $4.2m will be donated to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, benefiting the education of children of deceased Marines and federal law enforcement personnel. The letter from the Democratic Party leadership was a great example of the US Congress trying to intimidate a private citizen [regardless of his political views]. A good lesson, El Rushbo was able to out-flank, to ridicule, and beat the Democratic Party leadership to the punch. Not only are the Democrats taking a beating from the hands of the Republican president, now they have taken a beating from a private citizen. This incident will stop all of them from coming up with phony resolutions and phony letters in the future. Will they ever learn?

Hillary Clinton continues to lead in ALL the polls. The Democratic presidential wannabee is having a another good month. As per the latest Rasmussen tracker her lead has been growing in national polls for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, her negatives have held steady while those for her challengers have been growing, she leads now in Iowa and New Hampshire. And not only that, the latest Rasmussen national telephone survey finds that Hillary Clinton is seen as the most electable candidate in either party, with 81% of Democrats saying that she is at least somewhat likely to win the White House if nominated by her party. Those numbers are moving up, last month 75% said she was the most electable. The most significant part of the latest tracker is that now 50% of Democrats believe Hillary Clinton is Very Likely to WIN IT ALL if nominated. No other presidential wannabee [Republican or Democrat] comes even close to that figure. That latest figure is up 9 points from a month ago. What is happening here, are the Democratic Party voters falling into the Republicans Trap? Are the voters listening to the Republican Leadership giving the nomination to Hillary Clinton [i.e. Newt Gingrich, Karl Rove, and even president Bush], as they keep telling everyone that Hillary Clinton WILL be nominated? A word to the wise, don't believe it all, don't fall into the trap, and don't drink the cool aid. I can't see this woman becoming the Democratic Party nominee [not even with the "endorsement" of the Republicans] and I can't see this woman winning a presidential election [at the end of the day the Republicans will do whatever it takes to beat her]. Sorry, not during this generation.

Family Research Council's Values Voters Summit. Okay, here is the latest on the Family Values Gang. Republican presidential wannabes are trying to out-family-value each other. Multiple-wives-Rudy [Giuliani] is begging the Family Values Gang not to fear him for his stand on issues such as abortion or expect he would change purely for political advantage. Will the voters buy all the bull coming out of the mouth of all these family values advocates? Some are NOT buying it. On a straw poll released at the Family Values Event today Multiple-wives-Rudy came in in eighth place [second to last]. The top vote-getter was Single-wife-Mitt [Romney]. The straw poll [of values voters] was conducted online and at the Family Values conference by the sponsoring Family Research Council. Mitt Romney came in first with 1,595 votes, followed closely by Huckabee with 1,565. Very interesting, my two Republican Party candidates on The Final Four placed 1 and 2 on the straw poll. But here is the surprise, Ron Paul was third with 865. How about Multiple-wives Fred [Thompson]? He was fourth with 564 votes. So, WHO came in last? Oh by the way, the last place finisher was Multiple-wives-John [McCain]. WARNING, political satire! This was about family values, so, I had some FUN writing this one. The sardonic remarks are directed to the phony family values advocates and NOT to the REAL family values voters.

Out of the race. Well, this man was never IN the race. Republican presidential wannabee Sam Brownback said Adios to his presidential bid yesterday. His White House aspirations banished due to the lack of support and lack of money. This man was never in the top tier of any polls, he was always lagging the top tier candidates and was never able to break through the pack. His campaign was virtually broke with only $94k available to spend when he gave his No Mas speech yesterday. In my opinion this man will NOT be considered for a VP spot by any of the current Republican front runners, but there is always the next presidential election.

The forgotten war in Iraq is not over, so, let me insert some WAR talk here.

The real Iraq as we saw it. Here is a good account [different point of view] of events in Iraq. No, I am not going to tell you that I concur with this article, but it is very informative. We are not in the business of shooting messengers here. This column was written by a dozen of good Americans and they will NOT be labeled traitors or cut and runners by the Right Wing Axis because, frankly, nobody is listening [we are back to the "we are making progress mode"]. The authors are [all former Army captains]: Jason Blindauer served in Babil and Baghdad in 2003 and 2005. Elizabeth Bostwick served in Salah Ad Din and Najaf in 2004. Jeffrey Bouldin served in Anbar, Baghdad and Ninevah in 2006. Jason Bugajski served in Diyala in 2004. Anton Kemps served in Babil and Baghdad in 2003 and 2005. Kristy (Luken) McCormick served in Ninevah in 2003. Luis Carlos Montalvan served in Anbar, Baghdad and Nineveh in 2003 and 2005. William Murphy served in Babil and Baghdad in 2003 and 2005. Josh Rizzo served in Baghdad in 2006. William “Jamie” Ruehl served in Nineveh in 2004. Gregg Tharp served in Babil and Baghdad in 2003 and 2005. Gary Williams served in Baghdad in 2003. This was published by The San Diego Union Tribune [a Republican newspaper] on October 19th 2007. Click here for "The real Iraq as we saw it."

What General Ricardo Sanchez really said. Here is a good editorial on what General Ricardo Sanchez actually said when he commented about Iraq as a nightmare with no end in sight. This was written by Daniel Henninger, deputy editor of The Wall Street Journal's editorial page. I will not try to editorialize it, click here for "What General Sanchez Said."

UPDATED 10/21/2007:

This is a follow-up to my Political Recap 006. Bobby Jindal WON the election in Louisiana and he is now the new governor that state. Louisiana is now a REPUBLICAN state. This is from the Associated Press. U.S. Rep. Bobby Jindal easily defeated 11 opponents and became the state's first nonwhite governor since Reconstruction, decades after his parents moved to the state from India to pursue the American dream. Jindal, a 36-year-old Republican, will be the nation's youngest governor. He had 53 percent with 625,036 votes with about 92 percent of the vote tallied. It was more than enough to win Saturday's election outright and avoid a Nov. 17 runoff.

Thanks for reading!

Niki

Thanks for your comments. Niki, in the United States, politicians must collect a LOT of money in order to be competitive in any race, and if you are running for president then money collection is a full time job. I expect to see him running for office again in the 2012 elections IF his party manages to lose the election. As of now I see his party winning in 2008, but my crystal ball is by no means perfect. My crystal ball was totally wrong in 2006 during the mid term elections, with a wrong prediction for the Senate and a wrong prediction for the House of Representatives. Okay Niki, again, thanks for dropping by and have a fine JAPAN morning.

Yes, if there is anyone less popular than Bush, it is the Democrat led Congress. Did they really think they could sweep in and do anything? Surely the media and their speech writers knew that a small majority lead wouldn't amount to anything. Yet, they were all celebrating as if they had actually done something. I'm still waiting for any of them to DO something.

I haven't even attempted to keep up with politics for about 4 days EXCEPT to hear about Jindal's victory. Time to get back into the loop!

Great update, as usual.

(Isn't it good to have "a little revolution" back?)

Revolucionario

Thanks for dropping by. The do-nothing-congress is getting less than 20% [consistently] on the approval rating. Well, they have done SOMETHING, they have passed a few non-binding [read useless] RESOLUTIONS. What we need here is A Little Revolution to throw all those bums out. Have a fine Revolution morning.

Thanks for taking a break and dropping by. I try to post here just a few items, there is a LOT happening but I do not want to write a book on the recaps. And I do concur, what we need here is a little revolution. Have a fine Texas morning.

Tapline, thanks for dropping by and thanks for the comment. On the debates, I have watched only two of them [one GOP and one DEM] and I was not impressed due to the bad format for those debates [I like to hear the candidates talk with no interruption or time limit]. I do NOT have any favorites on the GOP or the DEM side, but I do have a bunch of them on my DO NOT TRUST list [some of them with familiar names]. Those on my DO NOT TRUST list will not get my vote. Have a fine Maine morning!

tlrb ... one of the bright spots of the GOP debates was when John McCain was asked about Hillary wanting to build a memorial to Woodstock ... He replied that he didn't know much about Woodstock, that he was a bit "tied-up" at the time (Hanoi Hilton). What a great contrast he made between himself and the Dem front-runner.

Another fun comment was from one of your favorites, Mike Huckabee. When speaking about Medicare and the Prescription Drug plan, he stated ... Can you imagine when all those Hippees from the 60's figure out they can get free drugs? ... Look Out. I believe Mike Huckabee is close to becoming a top tier candidate ... he just needs some money to get his ideas out there.

Great news about Bobby Jindal, a true American success story.

I hope the fires down your way aren't closing in on you. Have a great Southern California day.

Thanks for dropping by and thanks for the comment. Southern CA is burning, I can see the huge smoke cloud outside of my home and there is ash all over the place but my home is in a safe zone here, away from the fire zone. In ref to the debates, John McCain is real good when HE is McCain [he looks bad when he tries to play politician]. You are not the first to tell me that Huckabee is becoming a very serious contender on the GOP side of the house. He is one of my FINAL FOUR and we are not changing that listing. My other dark horse is Bill Richardson on the DEM side of the house. Too bad, these two candidates are not collecting enuf money to put them on the top tier yet. As I have said ad nauseam I see a ROMNEY-HUCKABEE ticket in the 2008 presidential election [vs EDWARDS-RICHARDSON] and I have already declared the GOP ticket the winner. But again, my crystal ball is NOT perfect! Have a fine Texas day.
